FIND YOUR SPARK
July 2024 |
MYRIAD is excited to announce SPARK, a new training programme for people from the global majority*, who are interested in working creatively with groups, and using creativity as a tool to support people’s mental health and wellbeing.
SPARK is for you, if you:
-Identify as being part of the global majority.*
-You’re interested in working creatively with groups in communities.
-You’d like to develop your skills as a creative workshop leader or facilitator, in an artform such as dance, music, theatre, visual art or crafts.
-You’re interested in learning more about creative health and how creativity can support people’s mental health and wellbeing.
From September 2024, the MYRIAD SPARK programme will support 12 global majority creatives through a bespoke, five-day training course in how to develop and use your creative practice to support communities and people’s mental health and wellbeing.
Dates: Mondays: 9, 16, 23, 30 September & 7 October, 10am – 5pm
Graduation event: Monday 14 October, 3-5pm
Location: Manchester city centre venue
Delivered by leading organisations and practitioners from the creative and health sectors, the course will cover:
- Mental Health and Creativity
- Mental Health Awareness Training
- Planning and Delivery of Workshops
- Aligning your practice & partner missions
- Professional Team Working
- Creating Inclusive and Safe Creative Health Spaces
- Safeguarding and Privacy in Creative Health
- Global Majority Communities and Mental Health Inequalities
- Anti-racist Practice
- Monitoring, Evaluation and Outcome Measures
- Managing Self Employment: The Essentials
- Professional Boundaries Online & In-Person
- Your Wellbeing and Your Work
- A Culturally Competent Practice
This opportunity is designed for early career practitioners with some experience of delivering individual or group creative sessions in any artform. It is also suitable for practitioners looking to refresh their skills.
Following completion of the course, participants have the opportunity to apply for a paid placement in a project taking place in Greater Manchester, in partnership with a health or voluntary sector organisation. Your placement will be an opportunity to apply everything you’ve learnt in a supportive environment, working alongside established practitioners.
Our aim is for you to leave the programme equipped and prepared to support global majority communities in improving their mental wellbeing through creative practice.
Financial support
We recognise that engaging in professional development requires a significant amount of time and missing potential paid work. Therefore, a number of training bursaries are available to support participation in this training with a value of between £200-£400.
We are also able to cover access costs (e.g. childcare). Bursary and access payments will usually be made at the end of the course and require 100% attendance.
* Global majority refers to people who do not consider themselves or are not considered to be white.
